Four hidden abilities are dealt at game start. You don't pick yours. You might not even know yours is "normal".
Every game of King & Dragon secretly assigns four special functions to random players, layered on top of their base role. These are hidden abilities unlocked only for those four players. Nobody else knows who has them. You can't see another player's special function at any point in the game, not even after death.
| Function | Count | What it lets you do |
|---|---|---|
| ๐ก Thief | 1 | Rob another player for gold and/or items |
| ๐ Assassin | 1 | Kill another player outright |
| ๐ง Vampire | 1 | Drain a victim โ they die and join your ghoul pack |
| ๐บ Werewolf | 1 | Hunt a victim โ they die and join your wolf pack |
The thief gets one extra action per turn: Rob. Pick a target, and you'll attempt to steal some of their gold. You may also steal one item from their inventory if they have any.
| Target | Success chance | Gold stolen (if success) |
|---|---|---|
| Peasant | 95% | 100% of their gold |
| Citizen | 75% | 95% of their gold |
| Knight | 25% | 75% of their gold |
| Prince | 5% | 50% of their gold |
| King | 1% | 25% of their gold |
Items can also be stolen โ bow parts, weapon parts, ACME kits โ at twice the rate of gold success (capped at 95%). A thief with a target carrying a bow string will most likely walk away with it.
On a failed robbery, there's a 10% chance the thief is caught and dies. The thief's items then drop to the Pawn Shop.
The assassin gets one extra action: Kill. Pick a target, and you'll attempt to murder them outright. On success, the target is dead โ items to the Pawn Shop, gold split per normal death rules.
| Target | Base success |
|---|---|
| Peasant | 95% |
| Citizen | 80% |
| Knight | 50% |
| Prince | 30% |
| King | 20% |
Each follower the target has reduces the assassin's success by 2% โ a fully-guarded prince (3 guards) drops the assassin to 24%.
The vampire's action is Drain. Pick a target, and on success they die โ and their corpse joins your ghoul pack as a follower. The vampire gets forest survival boosts and generally doesn't play the normal economy at all.
The werewolf's action is Hunt. Same mechanics as the vampire's drain โ pick a target, kill them, they join your wolf pack.
You never learn who has which special function during a game. All you see are consequences:
Players can accuse each other freely in the tavern chat. Accusations are 100% social โ there's no system proof mechanism. This is by design: the game wants you to suspect everyone.
Thieves and assassins earn small amounts of XP per successful action, which gradually improves their success rates and survival. Vampires and werewolves grow their packs instead. XP is not exposed in the UI โ it accumulates quietly and affects late-game probabilities.
